An Introduction to Unix and the RS/GIS Teaching
Laboratories
This is a brief introduction to the Unix operating system,
software used in the RS/GIS Teaching laboratory, and some of the rules and
guidelines for using the system.
Logging
onto the SUN Systems in the RS/GIS Teaching Laboratories
The Remote Sensing / GIS Teaching Lab is equipped with Ultra 10 SUN Microsystems
workstations. Access to the lab will be controlled by an individual numerical
entry code. Your code will allow you to sign-up for time, when the
lab is not reserved for other classes. Other SUN labs on campus may
have different access policies. All workstations have ERDAS Imagine
and the ESRI suite of software for use in lab assignments. Netscape
is also available on the system.Your login will follow you to any of the
stations.
