This is a projects course with two lecture period per week and a
significant amount of laboratory work. The topic that we will focus
on this semester is Classification, Feature Extraction, Change Detection and Monitoring.
In the past few years we have seen a rapid increase in the
availability and use of remotely sensed information for landcover
mapping, information extraction, change detection, and monitoring. These instruments come from
air, space and field based platforms and provide information
at a variety of spatial and spectral and radiometric resolutions.
Any single instrument cannot be used to fully understand terrestrial
processes that lead to better stewardship of natural resources.
The proper integration of spectral, biophysical, and field data
to extract useful information is required to develop decision support
systems.
This class
will meet twice per week in the BNR 208 teaching laboratory at the
scheduled time. Readings will be assigned from the literature and
internet. All work will be team oriented and results will be posted
on the web.
