In agent-based simulations, it is common practice to manage the multitude of independent agents collectively by a list. In this case, the cellsurface can be thought of as a two-dimensional list, responsible for knowing the location of the cell, knowing which cells are neighbors of that cell, and facilitating interaction between cells.
