Bathymetric information came from three
sources (figure 3.5). For most of the bay, a
digital file was used of point data from pre-1953 National Ocean
Service (NOS) survey. Since much of the shoreline and in-shore bottom
characteristics have changed in subsequent decades (figures
1.3 and 1.4), a field survey of
centerline channel depth was conducted by Antonini and Box (1996).
Information on the Intercoastal Waterway (ICW) channels was obtained
from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE).

Shoreline and bathymetric data were combined as input data for a
triangulated irregular network (TIN) model of the bay bottom. This
three-dimensional representation of the bay was converted to a lattice
of 10m2 resolution using Arc/INFO's TINLATTICE command, and this
lattice was imported into GRASS©GIS as a digital elevation
model. A summary of bathymetric information is presented in figure
3.6.
