Boats.

A field census of boats in Sarasota Bay was carried out concurrently with the facility inventory (1991-92). Boat locations were recorded on 1:1200 section aerial enlargements which were digitized as points in an Arc/INFO coverage and referenced to the shoreline coverage. Information about each boat was recorded on data sheets, which were entered into database files and later appended to the point coverage as attributes.

Information was collected regarding the make and model of the boat, estimated draft, and other physical parameters that could be useful in predicting boater behavior. The state registration numbers were recorded to facilitate contacting the boat owner. Additional information about the data collection methods are described in Antonini and Box (1996).
