The path that each boat took over the course of the simulated day was
determined by tracing a least cost path from specific origins and
destinations supplied by the individual boats' iteneraries by the
following heuristic:
- If the destination is outside of the study area, the boat's
destination is considered to be the point (coordinates) at which it
leaves the bay.
- If the destination is a specific site within the study area
(Quay, Marina Jacks, etc.), then the coordinates of that site was as
the destination.
- If the destination is one of a number of points (yacht clubs,
reefs), then one of the destinations is randomly chosen and its
coordinates given as the destination.
- If the destination is within an area described by a polygon
(open bay, fishing flats), then a location is randomly selected inside
the polygon and given as the destinaion.
Each path was written to an individual grass-GIS coverage. The
coverages were added together into various combinations for analysis
and display.
