The grid size of the simulation (10M) was chosen as it is small enough to contain effectively one boat with its personal buffer, but not so small as to be computationally unfeasible on available computers. This resulted in some difficulty in areas where the channels were about 20M wide. A simulation that allows for finer resolution simulations inside the trafficshed than in the bay proper could alleviate this problem, but would present formidable (and unprecedented) technical problems in its implementation. An alternative method, which is modeling a channel as a single source area at the expense of details about boats inside the channel, proved to be a workable alternative to this problem.
