The calibration for this simulation was done using mostly boaters who are moored inside the bay. Information about boaters entering the bay through ramps or one of the five exits was not used given the small sample size. It is possible that they have the same sort of dynamics as the boats that were used in the sample, but this has not been proved. Research is needed into the properties of this portion of the population to verify this.
The population interviewed was those those boaters who could be located and consented to a telephone interview. It is not known how much self-selection this introduced into the sample. Specifically, information about boats that sit idle may be underreported, as the owners of those boats are more likely to assume that their participation was not sought in the study. It is also not known if any of the classes were more willing to be interviewed than others, such as whether fishermen are more likely to consent to an interview than speedboat owners. This was somewhat ameliorated by using speedboat data to calibrate exclusively speedboats from the resident population, sailboat data to calibrate sailboats, etc.
